We assign roles to positions in order to give them access to the entire system or just to some sections.
There are 5 role types: Global, Business Unit, Observer, Team, Single. When creating a global position, only a global role can be added to it, when creating a team position only a team role can be added to it and so on.

To add a new role or to edit the permissions of an existing one, select Setup and click on Roles tab, then click + New button:

Each permission gives access to a module or a functionality (or multiple functionalities):

To have write/approve/reopen/finalise permissions, READ permissions are required. If a position does not have READ permissions on a module, that module cannot be seen/accessed at all.
